Punk: From Chaos to Couture | The 2013 Met Gala

This year, the theme of Punk: From Chaos to Couture, one of our favorite pairs on the red carpet were co-hosts Rooney Mara and Givenchy’s Ricardo Tisci, both inspired choices given both the event and theme!

Held since 1948 and hosted by Anna Wintour for the past 16 years,  The Met Ball is held to suport the Costume Institute, the fashion arm of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Over the years Anna has elevated the gala to great heights making it one of the most sought after tickets all year with celebrity saturation rivaling only the Academy Awards.

Les Victoires des Femmes | The Tory Burch Foundation

We were inspired to read a recent article about The Tory Burch Foundation. Founded by the designer in 2009, the organization works to support the economic empowerment of women entrepreneurs and their families in the U.S. through small business loans and mentorship. Over time, she found that many of the women who participated in the mentorship programs needed something beyond advice and direction. They needed tools to help them develop their business and scale it. We partnered with Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses and, in collaboration with Babson College and LaGuardia Community College, designed a pilot program for early-stage women entrepreneurs who have not had a formal business education.

The intensive program is a kind of customized MBA course, offered free of charge to promising entrepreneurs in a range of industries. Over the course of nine weeks, participants received practical business and management training covering everything from financial fundamentals to lessons in leadership, marketing, hiring the right people and how to get funding from outside investors. The Tory Burch Foundation wants them to own their title as CEO of their company.

This is something we can get behind….read the full article on The Huffington Post

Les Victoires des Femmes | Stella McCartney

Stella McCartney was awarded an Order of the British Empire from Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in London on Tuesday. McCartney donned a bespoke navy suit of her own design and a headpiece made from two Cartier jewels — one a family heirloom — sewn together by Philip Treacy. She wore the jewels with an antique veil she bought when she was 15 years old at a vintage fair.

“To receive an Order of the British Empire from the Queen is overwhelming. I feel proud, and blessed to be here,” McCartney told WWD. “This is the kind of moment in one’s life that feels surreal. I am so grateful for this honor.” The OBE is the latest addition to a roster of accolades over the past few months: McCartney won Designer Brand and Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards in November.
